Scotmid installs self service tills

Scotmid Co-operative has started installing self service tills in selected branches as part of a pilot project. Scotmid’s Pilrig store in Edinburgh will be the first branch to have the new self checkout devices, followed by Leven Street and Ratho Station.

Scotmid is introducing the self service tills in response to customer research, which found that shoppers wanted the choice of how they are served at the checkout. The new tills are also designed to give customers more speed and control over their shopping experience, and will feature an intuitive interface and animated instructions for ease of use.

If the pilot project is successful, Scotmid plans to introduce the self service tills to other suitable stores in its estate over the next year.

Tom Gibson, Marketing Manager for Scotmid said:

“Our research has shown that many of our customers want the option of using a self service till. Self checkout tills can give customers more control when they are paying for their items, and can also speed up the serving times when a store is very busy. It’s all about giving our customers the choice of how they want to be served when shopping with Scotmid, and we of course will still have the friendly faces of our staff at the checkout too.”

The next store to receive self service tills is Scotmid’s Leven Street branch, followed by Ratho.
