Co-operatives Fortnight 2015: The Big Co-op Clean

The Big Co-op Clean is a simple, but powerful, idea. It shows that by working co-operatively we can achieve much, much more.

During Co-operatives Fortnight 2015, thousands of co-operative members, employees, customers and school pupils will take part in clean-up events across the country. School grounds, parks, beaches, community facilities, businesses… the clean-up operation knows no bounds!

At Scotmid we’re supporting community events in Coupar Angus, Edinburgh,  Penrith and Uddingston and we’d love to see our members get involved!  Click on the venue for more info (Uddingston is a staff only event).

If you can’t come along to an event, there’s still plenty you can do to get involved!

Clean out your old clothes & take them to a clothing bank – there are Salvation Army clothes donation banks at over 50 Scotmid and Lakes & Dales stores.  Did you know that half the money generated from these banks goes back into our communities?

Clear out your food cupboards and pass any excess cans and dry goods onto your local food bank!

Join with your neighbours and spend a weekend working on all your gardens – it’s much more fun when you work together and you can have a great BBQ at the end of it all!

Speak to your local council about arranging a clean-up of community wasteland or painting at a local park.

Summer is here, so why not clean out the garden shed and free up some storage space?

Clear out your loft and do a car boot sale – you could even donate some of your new found wealth to a local charity!

You could also join with your neighbours and share the cost of hiring a skip for the weekend to supersize your clear out.

Save the environment, your fuel and your pennies and hand wash your car at home.

What can you recycle or upcycle? Check out online sites like freegle and upcycling.
