Previous Charity Partners

Our previous charity partners have included the following:

2015/2016 – Alzheimer Scotland and Alzheimer’s Society – £375,000

We didn’t think we could do it… but we did it!  Thanks to you; our members,  customers and staff we managed to achieve our highest every total of £375,000 for Alzheimer Scotland and Alzheimer Society (England and Northern Ireland). These funds will help both charities provide personalized support, care services, community activities, information and advice for people with dementia, their families and carers in communities across our trading area.

Members of staff rose to the challenge once again and pushed themselves to raise lots of money.  We had a team of intrepid cyclists who rode all the way from London to Paris in just three days; a brave member of staff who shaved her head, another ran her very first half marathon with only a few weeks’ notice and a combined team from Semichem and Scotmid climbed 3 mountains in 3 countries – all in 24 hours.

In additional to raising a tremendous amount of money, the partnership also helped our staff from across the business understand how best to communicate and support people living with dementia.  Many staff have now undergone the Dementia Friend training and a number of our stores have now been categorised as “Dementia Friendly”.

2014/2015 – Anthony Nolan – £370,000

A record breaking partnership and truly a live saving match, the Scotmid family raised a massive £370,000 for Anthony Nolan to go towards recruiting thousands of lifesaving stem cell donors from Scotmid areas.

A superheroes theme was chosen for the partnership and we became ‘The Scotmid Lifesavers’ for the year, teaming up with our communities to attempt to raise a target of £200,000.  Such was the success of the partnership that we raised the record total of £370,000 by taking part in everything from head shaves to bungee jumps. Members of Scotmid staff also braved The Forth Loony Dook, and spine-chilling Ice Bucket Challenges. Others designed and sold their own cook book and took part in food tastings.

Staff, members and customers from across Scotmid’s businesses have made this the most successful charity partnership in Scotmid’s history to date, nearly doubling the original fundraising target of £150,000.

The money will be put towards extensive awareness of prostate cancer and research programmes aimed at saving the lives of more men with prostate cancer, the most common male cancer in Scotland.
