Feeling good about ourselves, feeling good about our friends, families and colleagues – Scotmid believes that living fulfilling and healthy lives at home, at work and at school leads to happier, healthier communities.
Scotmid supports numerous health-related initiatives in schools
and communities across Scotland, for example the South Edinburgh
Healthy Living Initiative which saw us design and print a
newsletter, recipe cards and a banner to help promote a healthy
living in the city's Moredun district. The initiative saw a
different recipe card available in the Scotmid store each month for
six months.
We also awarded a £500 grant to Kirkliston Primary School to go
towards setting up a healthy tuck shop and gave teachers a Health
for Wealth resource pack to encourage them to do business the
co-operative way!
Breakfast Clubs
Across Scotland, we support Breakfast Clubs in primary schools,
generally in areas where we know many children leave home for
school in the mornings without having had breakfast.
In Dundee, for example, we are fuelling future learners by
supporting a Breakfast Club at Longhaugh Primary School near our
Scotmid store in the city's Fintry area.
The youngsters can enjoy a healthy start to the day which, in
turn, helps them settle down in class more quickly in the mornings
and concentrate better. Teachers have reported better attendance
and more enthusiastic pupils who are also encouraged to help with
the shopping - and the washing up!

Smoothie Bike
It's becoming a familiar sight the length and breadth of
Scotland - is a bird, is a plane? No, it's the Scotmid Smoothie
Bike!
We're spreading the healthy eating message around the country by
taking the Smoothie Bike into schools and to community events where
then produces its own healthy, nutritious and tasty smoothies! This
specially adapted bicycle is cleverly connected to a smoothie maker
so all you have to do to make a fruit-packed drink is add the fruit
and juice - then get pedalling!
The Smoothie Bike springs into action during health weeks and
Fairtrade Fortnight in schools where kids are invited to jump into
the saddle and pedal out their own healthy drinks.
