Scotmid opened its rebranded Botterills store in Ayr in early November. The rebranding exercise follows the acquisition of 51 Botterills stores at the end of 2010. This is the final Botterills store to be rebranded. The store was previously operating under the Spar franchise.
Local customer Renee Blacklock, 88, who has been shopping at the
store every day for over 20 years, was on hand to cut the ribbon
and welcome the first customers to the store.
Scotmid differs from many other retailers in that it is governed
by the principles of co-operation and is committed to supporting
the communities it serves. It operates a Community Grant scheme
which provides financial support to a range of community
initiatives and helps to enhance the lives of people in the local
area. Customers will also have the opportunity to become members of
the Scotmid Co-operative Society.
All the staff from the former Spar store have been retained.
Jean McGregor, Store Manager, said: "We have operated here for many
years as part of the Spar franchise and have built up a good
relationship with our customers. Becoming part of Scotmid is an
exciting time for us and we look forward to serving our Ayr
customers with an excellent new product range and some great
deals."
