Scotmid as a co-operative is owned and democratically controlled by its members.
Being a membership based organisation is what makes
us different from other businesses. As a member, you have an
equal vote regardless of the amount of share capital held.
"One member, one vote".
But you also have the opportunity to get more involved if you
like. You can attend our members meeting and become elected for a
Regional Committee and eventually our Board of Directors.
Regional Committees
There are two Regional Committees serving members living in the
Society's trading areas in the East/North and West. Trading,
democratic issues and Community grants are presented at Regional
Committee meetings.
Regional Committee members are nominated and elected by the
members from within their geographic region. Nominations for
places are accepted at the Ordinary General Meeting and elections
conducted at the Annual General Meeting.
Nominees must hold £25 in your share capital account and have
been a member of the Society for one year at time of
nomination.
Board
At the Ordinary General Meeting, the Board of Directors is
elected from nominated Regional Committee members by the Members to
represent their Region at Board Meetings. Nominees must hold
£50 in your share capital account at time of nomination.
The Board of Directors employs the Chief Executive Officer to
run the business.
