The West Regional Committee requires four members to be elected for a term of three years at the 2015 AGM.
The following members of the West Regional Committee are due to retire by rotation in April 2015. They were nominated at the OGM 2014 and are eligible for re-election:
Length of Society Membership: 20 years
Length of service on the Regional Committee: 12 years
I am honoured to have the opportunity to seek re-election to the West Regional Committee where I have served Members for almost 12 years.
I have a keen interest in the Co-operative Movement, particularly in relation to Governance and Fair Trade. I am married with 2 children. I am also a Councillor in North Lanarkshire. I am a Trainee Solicitor.
Length of Society Membership: 26 years
Length of service on the Regional Committee: 5 years
I became a Member of Scotmid Co-operative in 1989 and was elected to the West Regional Committee in 2010. As the third generation of my family to be involved in the Society it has been a privilege to play a part in helping shape the future of the Society and to continue promoting our Values and Principles within the communities in which we trade.
I have managed stores both within and outwith the Co-operative sector, both in Scotland and the South of England and in my spare time volunteer and present shows for Hospital Radio Law, based in Wishaw General.
Length of Society Membership: 23 years
Length of service on the Regional Committee: 3 years
I have worked for the Society for almost 26 years. During this time I have worked in a number of roles and locations across both Scotmid Food and Semichem including Sales Assistant, Refit Co-ordinator, Store Manager and Regional Business Manager.
My current role is Retail Operations Director with Semichem and this covers the whole of the operational side of the business across Scotland, England and Northern Ireland and includes the Distribution Centre in Livingston.
I have been member of the Scotmid Co-operative Society for almost 24 years as well as having the privilege to serve as a Committee Member for the West Region for the past 3 years.
The Co-operative values and principles have been a part of my whole working life that has been spent with Scotmid Co-operative Society. I would like to continue to play an active role in shaping the future of the Society, promoting our values and principles and strengthening our community links.
I see it as vital that we continue to encourage our next generation of co-operators and to ensure we have a sustainable future as an independent Scotmid Co-operative Society. I would be proud to continue this involvement in the West Region.
The following member was nominated at the OGM and is eligible for election:
Length of Society Membership: 3 years
I have been employed by Scotmid for 3 ½ years and work as a Regional Business Manager looking after 24 Semichem stores from Oban to Linlithgow that make up Region 31.
I have worked in Retail for over 26 years although strangely my planned career path was Electronic engineering which I studied at University.
Prior to working for Semichem I worked in the clothing industry from Sports wear to Ladies fashion, I was an Area manager by the age of 22 for Falmer Jeans and latterly Retail and Marketing director for Internacionale where I looked after 150 stores and 2200 staff.
I would be honoured to serve the Members and employees if I were to be elected to the committee. I have never had much of an opportunity nor time to be overly involved in either Community work or Charity work but since joining Scotmid this has changed, all for the better.
I have enjoyed both the personal challenges and the business challenges to drive and improve community involvement and charity fund raising. One of my personal highlights last year was raising several hundred pounds by snowboarding a decent equal to that of Mt Everest.
Outside work I have a busy life with my family, I am married with two children. I am an exceptionally keen golfer and enjoy snowboarding, fly fishing, dabbling on the stock market and oddly enough DIY.
